
The Master of Applied Psychology (MAP) degree program at Renmin University of China began admitting students in 2020, with part-time students admitted starting in 2022. The degree program includes specialties such as Big Data Psychology, Organization and Health Promotion, and Social Psychological Services. In 2023, Renmin University of China integrated resources within and outside the university and refined the training model, condensing the applied psychology professional master's degree into one specialized direction.
Currently, the MAP degree program at Renmin University of China focuses on "Psychology and Government-Enterprise Management," adhering to the concept of "Insight into Psychology, Empowering Management."
1. Objectives
The MAP program at Renmin University of China aims to cultivate students into advanced applied psychology talents who can undertake national Missions, possess professional Abilities and Knowledge and good Ethics, gain Insights into human nature and human psychological and behavioral laws, and finally become academic or applied psychology Talents needed by the country. The training objectives are condensed into the "MIT" (Make-I-Talent) model, which includes six core concepts:
Mission: Revival pillars, pioneers of a strong nation.
Ability: Research ability, practical ability.
Knowledge: Theoretical knowledge, methodological knowledge.
Ethics: Cultivate inner virtue and display moral conduct.
Insight: Insight into human nature and human minds.
Talent: Applied research talents, and management practice talents.
The targeted job positions for students include:
l Social psychological services, mental health services, personnel and talent work in government management and public administration.
l Human resource development, organizational health, user research, product design, operations, and marketing in enterprise management.
The program will design training objectives and models based on these targeted job positions, striving to cultivate students' mastery of psychological principles, techniques, and methods and their ability to apply them to various management scenarios.
2. Training Features
1) Multidimensional Curriculum System:
The program integrates resources from the Department of Psychology and multiple A+ disciplines within Renmin University of China to create a multidimensional curriculum for the professional master's degree in applied psychology. To strengthen students' foundation in "theory + methodology + practical skills", a series of professional theory courses (including seminars), professional methodology courses, and practical workshop courses have been carefully designed.
2) Dual Mentorship System:
The program integrates the professional advantages of academic mentors in psychology and the practical benefits of Industry mentors to help students grow into compound psychology professionals who are proficient in their field and skilled in practice.
Academic mentors are faculty members within the discipline, primarily responsible for guiding graduate students' daily research and thesis writing. Industry mentors are industry elites appointed to oversee project planning and internship and practice guidance primarily. Daily instructors include not only academic and industry mentors but also high-quality teachers hired from within and outside the university and even internationally.
3) Abundant Career Counseling Resources:
A dedicated counseling team is responsible for graduate students' career planning and development consultation.
3. Degree Awarding Criteria
Graduates of the psychology master's degree program should complete the training and social practice components of the program; master the fundamental theories of Marxism, possess good political quality and professional ethics; proficiently master a foreign language to read professional foreign literature; strictly adhere to academic ethics, independently complete high-level academic thesis writing that meets the standards for master's degree thesis at Renmin University of China; master the basic principles, knowledge, and skills of psychology and be able to comprehensively apply them in fields such as society, economy, culture, education, health, and management; possess a high sense of social responsibility and be able to face the future and solve practical problems.
