
1. Objectives
The academic master's degree in the Department of Psychology encompasses four specialties: Basic Psychology and Applied Psychology (both under the primary discipline of Psychology), Social Psychology (primary discipline of Sociology), and Psycholinguistics (primary discipline of Chinese Language and Literature). The duration of study is 3-5 years.
Basic Psychology: Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, Emotional Psychology, Clinical Psychology.
Applied Psychology: Applied Social Psychology, Managerial Psychology, Economic Psychology, Applied Psychological Measurement, Occupational Health Psychology.
Social Psychology: Experimental Social Psychology, Cultural Psychology, Personality Psychology.
Psycholinguistics: Language Processing (including language understanding, language production, language acquisition and development), Language, Cognition, and Culture.
The academic master's degree program in the Department of Psychology focuses on the international frontiers of psychology and serves significant societal needs. It aims to cultivate graduate students into advanced psychology talents who can be capable of undertaking national Missions, possess professional Abilities and Knowledge and good Ethics, gain Insights about human nature and human psychological and behavioral laws, and finally become academic or applied psychology Talents needed by the country and the people. Upon graduation, they are suitable for teaching, research, and practical work in schools, government agencies, enterprises and institutions, and consulting service agencies, or they can continue to pursue a doctoral degree.
2. Training Process and Requirements
The academic master's degree program adopts a comprehensive training method led by supervisors and focuses on scientific research and real-world practice. It emphasizes fundamental theories and research methodologies and integrates domain and professional knowledge.
The training process is divided into three annual stages:
First Year: Complete public compulsory courses, basic and elective professional courses, and prerequisite courses. Determine the thesis topic.
Second Year: Complete public compulsory courses and professional compulsory and elective courses in the first semester. The first thesis proposal defense is held at the end of the first semester. If the proposal is not approved, a second defense can be held in the second week of the second semester. Conduct a thesis mid-term assessment in the second semester.
Third Year: Present an oral report on thesis research progress at the end of the first semester. Complete the master's thesis and pass the thesis defense in the second semester. If the defense is not passed, the student must defer graduation, revise the thesis, and defend again according to the regulations of the graduate school. The entire duration, including the final thesis defense, must not exceed five years.
The thesis topic should have academic or practical value. The thesis must present independent insights within the field, have rigorous experimental design, reliable data, significant workload, high academic level, and meet writing standards with smooth and ethical content.
To be eligible for the thesis defense, applicants must:
l Complete the required course credits.
l Pass academic activities.
l Pass daily behavior assessments.
l Fulfill public service requirements.
l Complete the thesis.
l Have at least one academic journal article officially published in important domestic or international academic journals (including journals in the Core Journal List of Chinese Social Sciences and important journals recognized by the academic committee of the department) before applying for the defense (excluding supplements). Alternatively, one think tank report or unpublished research report that has been approved, adopted, or awarded by government departments at or above the provincial level (recognized by the department's academic committee) is acceptable. The graduate student must be the first author or the second author (with the supervisor as the first author).
